Why give to the library?
Demand for the library's services, programs and collections grows every day. New services and technologies challenge our resources.
Your gift allows the library to meet, and to improve needs, for today and for future generations.
Your donation will:
- buy resources for all levels of readers and learners
- support new technologies including adaptive equipment
- fund special projects such as enhancements to children's areas
- enhance literacy programming
... and so much more!
Dedicate your gift
Donations in memory or in tribute of a special person or event are a wonderful way to honour someone. Please include details of your recognition on the donation form.

Donate materials
We do not accept donations of books, movies, magazines, etcetera. The sorting, storing, and disposing of donated materials is no longer cost-effective.
If you have books or other media you would like to donate consider the following:
- Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library accepts donations of newer, good condition popular fiction and non-fiction books and movies (DVD, Blu-ray), and music LPs for their book sales. Proceeds support Winnipeg Public Library projects. See Book Donations | Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library for details on acceptable items, packaging, and how to donate.
- A lot of great places accept material donations – check out this list of local organizations accepting used books and materials.
- Sistema Winnipeg accepts some musical instruments as donations.
- In Winnipeg, books in their entirety are not accepted in the blue bin. However, book pages can be recycled. Remove the pages from the binding before putting them in your blue bin.
