Little Free Libraries
The Little Free Library (LFL)movement seeks to build community and promote the love of reading by encouraging free book exchanges. What began in 2009 in Wisconsin, US, the premise of "take a book, return a book" with small book shelters has grown to well over 100,000 book exchanges worldwide.
Want to read more about the movement? Visit littlefreelibrary.org (includes how to build and start your own LFL, and a map to registered LFLs around the world).
Winnipeg Public Library supports the Little Free Library movement in spreading the joy of reading. Would you like some pamphlets about early literacy and Winnipeg Public Library? Ask us and we will mail them to you at no cost. If you are looking for donated books for your LFL you may want to try posting a request to your neighbourhood social media groups for community donations. LFL stewards can also contact any of our branches and ask if they have book sale or unwanted donations to give. Please call ahead and ask for the Branch Head, or Ask Us online before going to a branch. Requests for adult, teen and/or children's materials can be made; box(es) will be packed and sealed for contactless pickup. There may be a delay until your request can be fulfilled.
