Winnipeg Public Library

Home Service

Home Service is available for customers who are unable to visit a library due to long-term illness or disability, and have no one to access a library on their behalf. Materials are selected and checked out by library staff, with delivery by a screened volunteer.

Materials are selected by library staff based on a reading profile and the customer's requests. Delivery is by a screened volunteer once a month. The volunteer picks up the bag of library material at the branch and delivers it to the Home Service customer's door. The volunteer then takes the bag of returns back to the library. Home Service customers have access to a wide range of items including:

  • Regular and large print books
  • Audiobooks
  • DAISY books (for those who qualify)
  • Music CDs
  • Movies (DVD, Blu-ray)
  • Magazines

To learn more, contact Millennium Library's Special Services at 204-986-6489. Learn about volunteering. Download poster, en français.

Selection Service

Staff at Millennium Library can select audiobooks, DAISY books and Large Print books based on a list of reading preferences and have them sent for pick-up at any library. Please contact Millennium Library's Special Services at 204-986-6489.

If you have a mobility disability and need help selecting regular print materials to be picked up by friends or family, please speak to staff at your local library.

Accessible Smartlockers

The Smartlocker is a locker system that allows customers the flexibility to pick up holds from a locker instead of from within the library. Customers can pick up their holds even when the library is closed!

Customers can now select an accessible option at the Millennium, Harvey Smith, and Osborne Library Smartlockers. If you require an accessible locker (the lower lockers) select the accessible option when placing your hold:

  • Millennium Library Smartlocker — Accessible
  • Harvey Smith Library Smartlocker — Accessible
  • Osborne Library Smartlocker — Accessible
  • Transcona Library Smartlocker — Accessible

Winnipeg Public Library Smartlockers offer the convenience of being able to pick up your holds even when the library is closed. Due to the extreme popularity of the Smartlockers this can mean a longer wait time for library materials. Customers may choose to pick up their holds inside the library to shorten wait times.
