Collections and Programs
Items for loan include Adult and Children's fiction and non-fiction, graphic novels, magazines, music, audiobooks, video games (Xbox, PS4, Nintendo Wii & Switch) and movies (DVDs and Blu-ray). There is a collection of books for children in French. As a branch of Winnipeg Public Library, members can also access an extensive eLibrary for downloadable eBooks, eMagazines, information resources and online journals, and streaming movies and music.
The Library offers programs and workshops for all ages. Browse our Upcoming Events to find what's on. Some programs require registration. All library programs are free.
Facility and Services
Transcona Library is located at 1 Transcona Boulevard. The branch has two tutorial rooms available.
The Library has free WiFi, bookable computers with MS Office and Internet access, and tables for studying. Photocopying and printing is available for a fee. Scanning to email is free.
History
Transcona opened its first library in 1958 to serve a population of 11,000. In 1961, a new library was on Victoria Ave. W and in 1975 the space was expanded to 8,574 sq. ft. A renovation in 1991 added an elevator. In 2017, work began on a new approximately 14,000 sq. ft. library. The new Transcona Library opened on March 7, 2019 and features an open and accessible floor plan, a family literacy playground in the Children's area, a living green wall, and an outdoor reading area and garden.
