History
The 13,143 sq. ft. Pembina Trail Library opened September 22, 1987, replacing a bookmobile which had been located in the parking lot of the Fort Richmond Shopping Centre for many years. A "Name Your Library" contest was held prior to the opening and Pembina Trail was selected from the many entries received. This name "commemorates the trail's historic role in the development and expansion of Canada's western settlements."
On May 5, 2018, the library closed for renovations. It reopened on September 24, 2018 with a 24 hour book return, universally accessible washrooms, new automated front sliding doors, and an overall interior refurbishment.
