Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a kit?

Search 'book club kits' in the online catalogue and place the kit you want on hold. Kits may be sent to your local branch by placing requests in our catalogue, much as any other library material. Library staff can also help you place a request. You cannot reserve a kit for a specific date, but you can create suspended requests if you would like to book multiple kits for your club to use over a period of time.

Where do I return the kit?

You may return the kit in person to any branch of Winnipeg Public Library. You cannot return kits through after-hours book drops. The kit must be intact with all copies included. Incomplete kits will be subject to replacement costs.

How many kits can I have at a time?

You can have two kits checked out at a time.

How long can I have a kit?

Kits are checked out for eight weeks (60 days). You cannot renew kits.

What are the borrowing rules?

The individual who checks out the kit is responsible for returning all pieces of the kit. General library borrowing rules also apply.

What if I need more than 10 copies for my club?

Your book club members may find additional copies of titles through our catalogue. There may also be copies of titles available in the browsing paperback collections at your library, as well as large type editions. These additional copies are subject to the normal library lending periods - typically three weeks. Visit or phone your local library, or search the catalogue to place requests.

Can I get a Readers Guide without the kit?

Yes. If there is a book you do not need copies of, but would like to see the Readers' Guide for, the Library will provide you with a copy. For Adult Book Club Kits you can request a Readers' Guide by calling 204-986-6779 or by email. For Children's or Young Adult Book Club Kits you can request a Readers' Guide by calling 204-986-6488 or by email.

How can I suggest a title to be added to the list of kits?

We are always interested in feedback on the kits and suggested titles. For Adult Book Club Kit suggestions contact Readers Services, Millennium Library, by email or by phone at 204-986-6779. For Children's or Young Adult Book Club Kit suggestions call 204-986-6488 or send an email.
