Computer Workshops and eMedia Appointments

The Library provides introductory computer workshops and appointments to learn how to use the library's online services. The library's two-hour, hands-on computer workshops provide basic skills to support further learning on your own. Space is limited. Repeat registrants for the same workshop may be cancelled or wait-listed. Arrive on time; latecomers cannot be accommodated past 15 minutes. No-show registrants may be denied future spots. All workshops are free and require registration.

Computer Basics

Introduction to the Computer

An introduction to the basics of computer use, focusing on turning a computer on and off, using a mouse, the different parts of Windows, and how to open and close programs.

File Management

Learn the basics of managing files on a Windows computer, using external storage devices, and tips for keeping information organized. Basic computer skills required.

Email Basics

Learn to receive and open, reply to, format, and send email. Basic computer skills required.

Internet Basics

An introduction to searching the Internet including using a browser, search engines such as Google, and opening and exploring websites. Basic computer skills required.

Google Drive

Learn to use Google Drive to store and share files in various forms. Basic computer skills required.

Word Processing

Word Level 1

Learn about editing and formatting text using Word, including opening and saving documents. Basic computer skills required.

Word Level 2

Build on the basics to create lists, add pictures, and use indenting and page layout options to format your document. Prerequisite: Word Level 1 or equivalent knowledge.

Word Level 3

Learn to work with tabs, to insert and format tables, and to convert text to a table. Prerequisite: Word Level 2 or equivalent knowledge.

Excel

Excel Level 1

Learn about basic spreadsheet layouts, cell formatting, and simple math by creating a home financial sheet. Basic computer skills required.

Excel Level 2

Build on the basics of Excel math with simple functions such as MIN, MAX, AVERAGE, and IF statements. Charts will also be explored. Prerequisite: Excel 1 or equivalent knowledge

Excel Level 3

Focus on conditional formatting, tables, sorting, and filters along with VLOOKUPS through use of templates and practical examples. Prerequisite: Excel 2 or equivalent knowledge.

eMedia Help One-on-One Appointments

Book a 45-minute one-on-one help appointment with Library staff and get help with Library eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMagazines, eNewspapers, or streaming music or video. Please note: General training on how to use devices is not covered during these appointments.
