"In many respects, being on the Library Board is somewhat self-serving. I was always in libraries, enjoying all that was offered. Being a long-time resident of the North End, I felt the St. John's Branch was another home. Serving on the Board allows me to do some small good for the present and future as well as offer an appreciation for what my community has given me. It gives me satisfaction. This may seem like a small thing, but we live in a rich world and this wealth needs to be shared. As a teacher of many years, I clearly see how young people flourish when they are given the gift of literacy."
